UNS Students Selected as Athletes Representing Central Java Contingent in Pomnas XVIII 2023

UNS – Students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta were selected to represent the Central Java Province (Jateng) at the National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) XVIII 2023, held in South Kalimantan. A total of 27 UNS students served as athletes in the Central Java Province contingent.

In Pomnas XVIII, these 27 athletes competed in various sports, including athletics, badminton, wrestling, karate, kempo, pencak silat, swimming, sepak takraw, and taekwondo. Pomnas XVIII 2023, scheduled for 12 days from November 11 to 22, took place in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. These athletes strived and exerted their best efforts to achieve maximum achievements while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.

Iwan Wisnu Anggono, S.S., M.Si., the Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau UNS, expressed the university’s readiness to provide support during the athletes’ competitions.

“I am very proud to see our students selected as athletes representing the province at the national level. This reflects their extraordinary achievements in sports, and we will provide full support to ensure they are ready to face these challenges,” Iwan said during the send-off event for the athletes at the Faculty of Sports Sciences (FKOR) UNS on Saturday (11/11/2023).

In line with this, Prof. Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd., the Dean of FKOR UNS, stated that the contribution of UNS students in Pomnas XVIII is evidence of excellence in athlete development.

“It is very gratifying to see students from our Faculty of Sports Sciences selected as provincial athletes to compete at the national level. This is evidence of excellence in athlete development and outstanding achievements in the field of sports. We will provide full support so that they can perform at their best and bring home great achievements for the faculty and the university,” Prof. Sapta Kunta said.

He emphasized that the university aimed to provide a holistic approach, involving intensive training programs, health monitoring, and more. Coaches and staff had collaborated to ensure that UNS athletes were physically and mentally prepared.

“We have coordinated training schedules to ensure optimal performance at the national level. This support is not only for achieving sports excellence but also for character development and the overall well-being of the athletes,” he added.
