UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta achieved the 6th position in the University of Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric ranking. The announcement and awarding of the UI GreenMetric Ranking for Indonesia took place at Hasanudin University, Makassar, coinciding with the National Seminar on E-waste Solutions on Thursday (30/11/2023).
UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., stated that after obtaining the 7th rank for four consecutive years, UNS has finally improved its position in 2023. “Alhamdulillah, in this announcement, UNS entered the top 10, precisely ranking 6th out of 145 participants nationally. It is a proud and joyful achievement,” Prof. Jamal expressed on Friday (1/12/2023).
Prof. Jamal added that UI GreenMetric, as a globally recognized ranking institution, has been assessing the achievements of higher education institutions that are concerned about environmental sustainability since 2010. “The UI GreenMetric assessment covers six main aspects: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research, all of which consist of 39 indicators,” Prof. Jamal added.
In its 14th year, the international UI GreenMetric ranking has been participated in by 1,183 universities from 85 countries. Nationally, 145 higher education institutions participated in the UI GreenMetric ranking.
Although the ranking is not the primary focus for participants, the announcement is always eagerly awaited after the hard work of the ranking teams of each university. “This achievement is expected to encourage the entire academic community to refine themselves and continue to innovate in implementing sustainable environmental programs for the sake of a sustainable Earth and future generations,” he concluded.
