UNS – Two lecturers from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, namely Prof. Ir. Ubaidillah, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Adam Wahida, S.Pd., M.Sn., received the Academic Leader Award at the World Scientific Forum of Indonesia (WSFI) in 2023. Prof. Ubaidillah received the award in the Sub-Category of Technology Lecturers, while Dr. Adam Wahida received the award in the Sub-Category of Arts and Culture Lecturers. The award ceremony took place at the Grand Hyatt Bali Hotel, Nusa Dua BTDC Tourism Area, Badung, Bali. The event was broadcast on the Directorate General of Research and Technology’s YouTube channel on Monday (13/11/2023).
The award is given to lecturers who, during their service, have produced innovative works in the fields of learning, research, and community service, made real contributions to the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of the higher education institution where they work, inspired peers, and been very beneficial to national development.
The Academic Leader Award for lecturers is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to promote and strengthen the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) to produce superior, morally upright, and Pancasila-personality human resources in Indonesia. The awarding event for lecturers as Academic Leaders in 2023 was carried out with the principles of academic freedom, participatory, openness, accountability, benefits (commercial, economic, and/or socio-cultural), and sustainability.
The purpose of the award event for Academic Leaders is to encourage lecturers to develop creative ideas for the implementation of MBKM and contribute significantly to achieving KPIs. Additionally, this platform aims to build a conducive climate for strengthening and developing innovation as an outreach of scientific research to create added value commercially, economically, and/or socio-culturally sustainably through collaboration with various parties, both at the national and international levels.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., expressed pride in the two lecturers. They are seen as having elevated the name of UNS and contributed to the implementation of KPI.
“As the rector, I am very proud of the achievements of our two lecturers who received the Academic Leader awards from Kemendikbudristek. This is an extraordinary achievement that reflects their commitment and dedication to the academic field they are involved in,” Prof. Jamal said.
Prof. Jamal sees Prof. Ubaidillah’s achievement, who is also a professor at UNS, as an impressive feat. According to him, technology is a continuously evolving field, and having an academic recognized as a leader in that field adds significant value to the university’s reputation.
“I hope that Prof. Ubaidillah’s expertise and contributions will continue to inspire our students and staff and help guide research and development in the field of technology,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Adam Wahida is equally deserving of appreciation. Prof. Jamal mentioned that art and culture play a crucial role in shaping character and understanding society. Having an acknowledged academician in this field will strengthen UNS’s position in supporting diversity and cultural richness.
“I am confident that Dr. Adam Wahida’s contribution will help open new opportunities for students interested in art and culture,” Prof. Jamal added.
As the Rector, he will support both lecturers in their efforts to continually improve the quality of education and research in their respective fields. Prof. Jamal will also seek ways to promote their achievements more widely, both nationally and internationally, so that UNS can be increasingly recognized as a center of academic excellence.
