UNS Faculty of Psychology Holds Full-Day Workshop on Action Research

UNSThe Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a “Fullday Workshop on Action Research” in clinical psychology settings. The event was held to support the profession of psychology practitioners, especially psychologists, in providing evidence-based practice (EBP) services. An essential component of EBP is evidence-based on competent research, including action research.

The action research workshop was opened by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K). In his opening remarks, he stated that the field of psychology has many research topics that require action research. Considering that universities are centers of knowledge, especially through research activities, this workshop is crucial, particularly for the field of psychology.

“This event is expected to provide benefits to all participants attending the workshop,” Prof. Reviono said during the event held in Room 3 on the 5th floor of the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower UNS, Wednesday (8/11/2023).

The Fullday Workshop on Action Research was attended by 36 participants from academia and psychology practitioners from various institutions, including educational institutions, hospitals, psychology associations, and private and independent psychology service bureaus. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, both physically at the UNS Tower and also through Zoom Cloud Meeting. On this occasion, the workshop was moderated by Arif Tri Setyanto, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psi., a lecturer in the Psychology Program at the Faculty of Psychology UNS and also the Chairman of the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI) in the Central Java region.

The first session included presentations by speakers and the formulation of mini action research proposals. The invited speaker for the workshop was Dicky C. Pelupessy, Ph.D., a practitioner of Action Research and also the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Indonesia (UI). In his presentation, he mentioned that in clinical psychology, there are not many publications explicitly outlining the action research method.

“As one of the research approaches with distinctive characteristics and strengths, action research can investigate, evaluate what is done, modify, and find effective solutions to problems in specific situations with localized solutions that can create change,” Dicky explained. Humas UNS
