Professional identity and well-career planning are two crucial factors which affect nurses’ motivation to continue their own profession (Simmonds et al., 2020, Wei et al., 2021). Increasing evidence has shown that a low sense of professional identity and poor career planning in first-year undergraduate nursing students often lead to the loss of nursing manpower(Ling et al., 2019). However, the current education system has not yet paid enough attention to address such problems. It is therefore necessary to develop a feasible and effective programme that can improve the professional identity and career planning skills among first-year undergraduate nursing students. A review of the literature found that Noddings' caring theory may be potentially useful in guiding the programme development (Noddings, 2002, Zhang and Zheng, 2021). Thus a Nurse Navigation programme was constructed based on Noddings' caring theory and was implemented among first-year undergraduate nursing students. The effectiveness of this programme was then evaluated from a quantitative perspective.
