Remember me
The world of ophthalmology and medicine has lost a giant. Professor Alan B. Scott (1932–2021) passed away at the age of 89 on the 16th of December 2021 [1]. He was a lifelong innovator and the inventor of oculinum, later named Botox® [1].
The story of Botulinum toxin from poison to therapeutic agent stems from the collaboration of two extraordinary scientists, Scott and Edward Schantz (1908–2005), who approached the toxin with completely different goals [2] and the major influences of two contemporary clinical scientists, Arthur Jampolsky (1919–2021), ophthalmologist, and Daniel Drachman (1932–2022), neurologist.
