RDD is a rare benign histiocytosis, 40% of RDD presenting with extranodal involvement and 10% of extranodal RDD have cutaneous involvement, 3% of them without systemic involvement [1]. CRDD occurs mostly in older women and Asians, which usually located in the face, eyelids and cheekbones, rarely in the back, chest, thighs and shoulders, with isolated or fused yellow or reddish brown erythematous nodules or plaques. A study of 25 patients in China found that the majority of patients (80%) showed "papular nodules", followed by sclerotic plaques (12.8%) and tumors (7.7%) [2]. It has been reported that surgery, freezing, low-dose methotrexate and vincristine successfully treated CRDD, and spontaneous regression is also possible. Most systemic treatment for CRDD have significant systemic risk, while surgery may affect its appearance and the risk of relapse. Here we report a successful case treated by fractional laser combined with 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT), which suggest that this is a feasible and effective therapeutic option for CRRD.
